Bakery & Pastry Students Presented Food Product at Virtual Conference

A duo from the Bakery and Pastry Programme of Keningau Vocational College, Jossie Jane Ales and Leonora Linus Alliun, presented their final year project at International European Conference on Social Sciences on 22 April 2022. The event which was hosted in Turkey was attended by dozens of delegates from over 20 countries. Their recorded presentation can be accessed on the following link.

The team created a new type of bun with its filings made from Bilimbi, a tropical fruit, as an alternative snack for the community. Bilimbi grows abundantly in the region but it is hardly consumed by the locals which causes the fruit to wither and rot as organic waste. Thus, this project aimed to create sauce out of this fruit and used it as fillings for buns since the locals are fond of eating staple like rice or bread with spicy sauce known as “sambal”. The college director, Johari @ Jaibet Bin Sabin, praised the two students for their innovative use of the fruit and their passion in introducing new variants of buns that can be made commercially available for the local community.
